What is
Economic Development?

Economic development is the ongoing work of creating the conditions that help businesses, people, and communities thrive.
It includes supporting business growth, strengthening the workforce, improving community assets, and building partnerships that create long-term economic opportunity and quality of life.

The 3 Pieces of
Economic Development
Business Development
Helping businesses start, grow, invest, and succeed.
Workforce Development
Connecting employers, workers, educators, and training resources to strengthen the talent pipeline.
Community Development
Supporting the housing, childcare, infrastructure, education, amenities, and
quality-of-life factors that help communities attract & retain people and businesses.
A strong economy depends on all three working together.
A business may want to expand, but it also needs qualified workers. Those workers need housing, childcare, transportation, reliable internet, and a community where they want to live. In today’s economy, business, workforce, and community development are increasingly interconnected—and successful economic development requires attention to all three.
